Rated 2 out of 5 by from bought 3 down to 1 working one I am an Automotive instructor at a vocational high school and we bought three 2488-20 Soldering Irons. We bought one to try and it worked so well we bought two more. We have had to send the first one out for repair and now returning to school we try the other two and they are not working. One green light always flashes and the other the red lights blink real quick and the iron shuts down. They are not used daily and do not have a lot of time on them . When they worked they were great, I love Milwaukee tools and we try buy and use them at the school but I don't think the soldering irons are up to be used at a professional level.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Was great for a few minutes... Then it MELTED!!! So disappointed! The Milwaukee engineering department is really falling off a cliff! This thing melted down in a 60 degree F cold climate during its first use. Clearly there's something wrong with the temperature regulation and/or the plastics selected. What are you guys doing over there?!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Same issue as many others I've had my soldering iron for about a year now and it works flawlessly for small jobs. The last few times I've used it, however, the jobs took a bit longer than in the past and the knurled piece that holds the end started to melt. Once this happened, the tool was useless until it cooled back down and the plastic reset. This piece "should" have been made out of ceramic so the heat wouldn't be wicked off like metal would and it wouldn't melt like it does with plastic.......as it stands right now, I can only use it only really small jobs that take less than 5 mins or so at full heat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken plastic neck/collar Broken from collar as usual At least make this stupid part awailable to buy as a spare part In my opinion they should recall this and replace this with proper part

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I think I figured out the melting tip problem I've had my iron for at least two years with no problems using the 2 ah small battery. Yesterday for the first time ever I put a 6 amp hour battery on it and within 10 minutes the plastic tip base melted. I believe the 3 or 6 AH batteries allows the iron to draw extra current and that cause the base to melt. It's a great iron that will last a long time as long as you only use the 2 amp hour battery and nothing larger.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely crap quality After accidetally fall from table to floor the ceramic resistance snap after only few uses

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very handy. I use this to solder electrical connection in automobiles and atv's. From the time it is turned on it is melting solder within seconds. No cord, ergonomic swivel handle and light for the underdash work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Melted collar, wish I’d had read these reviews Very little use and the collar melted and tip snapped off, very dissatisfied with this tool, I have many Milwaukee tools and this one just isn’t worthy of the name. Can these be repaired? I’m guessing not looking at the other reviews, disappointed to say the least
