Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a serious flaw. I absolutely love my M12 tools so I was really disappointed when this happened yesterday. I have had this iron for over a year now and it has worked flawlessly until yesterday. Had a big job to do and right in the middle of it the tip started moving on the iron. I looked at it and couldn't believe what I was seeing, the whole tip holder was melting..... As you can see in the pictures the plastic tip holder will not hold up to the big jobs. It has stiffened up once it cooled down but the tip holder is shot. Cant seem to find a replacement part for it either. Other than that this thing is one of my favorite M12 tools

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works Well. Sturdiness Not Quite there yet As a soldering iron this is the best soldering iron I've used in 20 years as a technician. The heat is enough to easily solder Two-Way radio bases and heavy guage automotive wire with the chisel bit. The LED light is an amazing addition that makes working under a dash so much easier. Like others though the collar for the tip broke. Milwaukee Australia said the part is not a replaceable part. Unfortunately after the collar broke the heating element broke afterwards. So it may not quite be strong enough in a profesional trade environment unless you're extremely careful with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from bought 3 down to 1 working one I am an Automotive instructor at a vocational high school and we bought three 2488-20 Soldering Irons. We bought one to try and it worked so well we bought two more. We have had to send the first one out for repair and now returning to school we try the other two and they are not working. One green light always flashes and the other the red lights blink real quick and the iron shuts down. They are not used daily and do not have a lot of time on them . When they worked they were great, I love Milwaukee tools and we try buy and use them at the school but I don't think the soldering irons are up to be used at a professional level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you solder in tight places, this is a must This tool is the best cordless soldering iron I've used. I have disliked butane ones because they tend to burn either other wires around it, you or sensitive plastic around where your working. I've been an aftermarket technician for about 8 years now. Working in tight places where can get a bit tricky with the size of the tool, but that downfall is outweighed by the usefulness. No need to refill constantly, or exaust to worry about. I would recommend having 2 batteries because it does chew through them pretty fast. Heats us very fast, ready to solder in about 30 seconds. Overall a very handy tool that works well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Milwaukee meltdown I bought this product a little over a year ago. Initially, I was absolutely thrilled. I own a dozen M12 tools which I use daily for my business, and this soldering iron was a welcome addition. There are times when I do a great deal of low voltage electrical work and the soldering iron was the last holdout needing an extension cord. After a few months of use, like many others, the plastic collar holding the tip flange in place melted and broke beyond usability. Now, the device is practically useless. This is not what I expect from Milwaukee.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from seemed like a professional tool at the time I got this as a gift last year , I'm a professional auto tech and use soldering irons in the shop all the time. When I got this , I loved how it felt sturdy and would stand on its own when using the larger square batteries. I gladly gave up my butane powered soldering iron for this one. But now it stopped working and I'm greatly disappointed. My first reaction is to replace the tool , but I see I'm not the only one with a failure. I'm not inclined to get another given the amount of failures out there. Even if its warrantied , I still have to return it and wait for another. Too bad ,it could have been a great tool for the pros out there .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Melting collar I’m an avid hobbyist and love the cordless aspect. However after a few uses the collar started to melt, and like in other reviews once it’s hot And you apply a little pressure the whole tip moves. Very disappointed. What’s even more disappointing is it’s not a serviceable part.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I do not recommend I always depend on quality, brand name, and dependability, I have a few power tools by Milwaukee, l like the ease of swapping batteries from another tool is such a convenience. For years none have failed me till I got my hands on this tool. I do alot of 12v electrical and Soldering it very important when you provide good quality of work. Knowing it's a Milwaukee tool I over estimated it. Somewhat of a poorly designed plastic like peice has melted as I left it on for a few minutes unattended. I was in disbelief when I seen my new tool damaged under very little use. I didn't realize that leaving it on heating up while I prep my wires was going to cause it to melt. Not recommended which really sucks because I depend on Milwaukee. Hopefully they figure out a much better replacement. Thank you
