Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lineman review I work power lines and often have to run chainsaws in cramped conditions with bulk gloves on. This thing delivers high power without the hard pull start and warm up of traditional gas. Cutting up 6x6 arms and pills up to 26 inches thick all day, this last through 4 days of work or approximately 6 poles and 12 arms. More than enough for me. 4 stars for Overall use quite controlled power Longevity Durability (it takes a beating) No spark so it's usable in high flame areas Environmental friendliness-no gas , EPA guys love it -1 star for 2 hand use- wish it was made in the sthil trimsaw style so I could easily one hand it and replace all my chainsaw needs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome First Cuts Wow... I used it for 10 minutes and cut enough 4 foot length logs to fill the back of my truck. They took me an hour and a half to load into the truck. It went through those trees like butter. The battery still had 2 of the 3 power check LED's when I was done. It used about 3/4's of a full tank of the bar oil but bar oil is cheap... better than pushing a button to feed the oil when you think it needs it. I have a Poulin gas chainsaw and I had an electric for cutting close to home but this one can replace both of those. I just make sure I have an extra battery and a litre of bar oil and I'm good to go for a few hours of straight cutting. Good job DeWalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best investment I live in the middle of a ten acre forrest and have owned my chainsaw for about 3 months. I’m pretty sure that you can’t be any rougher on a tool than I have with this saw. I have used it more in 3 months than most people would in a couple of years. Its is so simple to use and maintain, it doesn’t leak chain lube all over like my other chainsaws. The battery life is great, I always take 2 freshly changed 60v batteries with me and usually by the time that I’m halfway through my second battery I’m too tired to cut anymore so the batteries last longer than me! No hassles of starting and stopping like you have with gas. This is my favorite chainsaw and would recommend to anyone, this thing is tough.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very nice for a battery powered saw I use this saw to clear fallen branches and Privet Hedge on a 60 acre farm. The battery usually lasts longer than I do which means 3 or 4 hours of intermittent cutting. My observations: There is no case for the saw. I built a box that holds the saw, a replacement chain, 2 batteries and a quart of oil. You will want something similar because the saw does shed bar oil. I had a issue with the chain coming off the sprocket. I found that the sprocket cover washer had come loose. Reseating it and tightening the screw did not tighten the cover washer until I added another washer under the screw. Now the chain stays on the sprocket but I wonder if my fix is a long-term solution. I bought this saw to clear branches and brush between half inch to 6 inch in diameter. It does great with that. Other than the cover washer issue, I would recommend this saw

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool Bought this chainsaw a few months ago and it has been meeting my demands everytime. The chainsaws battery life cant keep up with a gas powered chainsaw but I have multiple batteries and chargers so I can work non stop with it. I'd say it gets about 20 or so cuts on a 12 inch log per charge on 6 amp hr battery depending on sharpness of the chain. Its definately useful when only needing to make a few cuts instead of using a gas one that needs to be warmed up before use. Only downside of this chainsaw is that you need to empty the bar oil after each use otherwise what's left in it slowly leaks out. Overall great product for those not using chainsaw full time and dont like dealing with mixed fuel gas ones.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Raymond DeWalt Would lose his mind if he knew. I own probably $5000 in DeWalt tools and use them daily, so I have no axe to grind. I'll be fair and tell you what's good first. It's got an impressive amount of power and exceptional torque, which is what is expected from brushless motors. The bar and chain are decent quality (Oregon) and the battery life is passable if not great. Now hold onto your hat for the bad. The bar retention system is ALL plastic and rubber, and the bar is so poorly clamped that it will deflect to the side as much as two inches, which is more than enough for it to cause the chain drivers to climb the edges of the bar and pop off. There is a clutching mechanism in the bar retention nut that prevents tightening the bar anywhere close to the required torque to actually secure it, but it appears that's actually engineered in to keep you from breaking the plastic retention system. The chain tensioner is a toolless spur-gear design that's a cool concept, but once again it's all held together by the cheesy plastic housing and any amount of torque applied to the bar (well below normal use) causes the mechanism to slip and the chain gets loose and bang, you're having to reinstall the chain again. It's also oddly shaped to accomodate the battery housing so it doesn't fit into a typical chainsaw box. Last and probably the worst part, the oil tank is too small and runs out of chain oil well before the battery dies, making it very easy to clog up and overheat a bar and chain, which will trash the chain and accelerate wear on the bar by about 20x. In short, if you need this saw more than 5 times a year for 15 minutes at a time, don't buy it, it WILL make you insane trying to keep it running. I'd expect this kind of quality from Harbor Freight, not DeWalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power without the loud noise Cuts faster than my old 12" gas Poulan without all that racket, (I did need an ear muff). Cut up an old fallen 30ft. Juniper tree that had about an 8" trunk. Used 1 and a half battery to cut the main trunk and its branches into 10-12" pieces. Now I don't have to struggle getting a chainsaw started. I'm an occasional user, also not having to worrying about gas getting stale which, by the way - deteriorated the seals in the gas tank in my former Poulan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY...Please don't buy! Been a DeWalt fan for many years and will still purchase their tested tools in the future. Purchased this saw because of reputation of past purchases and their history for making great tools. Saw and battery create a strong tool for general use but chain adjustment system is horrible. Too much plastic and poor design to hold up to even casual residential use. Save yourself the frustrations and investment for another type saw. This is the only DeWalt tool that has ever let me down and generally a bad purchase choice considering the amount of cash invested to learn the true performance.
