Very difficult to use with an extremely short life
I have almost nothing good to say about the Bosch GT600 drill bit. It is easy to start a hole with a brand new bit, but very difficult and time consuming to actually drill a complete hole in the side of a normal glass block! For one thing, the bit’s instructions don’t give any guidance about water at all. We had 26 glass blocks to drill for a craft project and went through 3 of these bits during 22 attempts with 4 blocks cracking for us. If the hole completes, the drill becomes VERY difficult to control. We needed a safety board to help catch the chuck (with a 3 / 4" hole in it to provide just enough clearance for the bit and spraying water) to prevent crashing into the glass when the cut finished. We tried using a lot of water, very little, or none. We tried using different drills, one a variable speed 0 – 2500 RPM and the other drill set in low gear ratio with 0 – 1,000 RPM and both had similar results. You could get 1 or 2 good holes out of a bit if you were lucky (taking a little under 2 minutes with a fresh bit), and then it dulled and was very slow at best or shot altogether. Also, the edges of the holes were often fairly uneven and sharp.
Based on some videos I found online of similar bits, I think using one of these in a drill press with precise speed control, perfect vertical alignment, plenty of water and a fixed depth stop might work- BUT for some bizarre reason Bosch’s instructions explicitly say NOT to use a drill press!
We found that using a hole saw style diamond bit was MUCH easier and faster.
