Forstner drill bits are an essential bit for those who own or plan to purchase a drill press. Like the function of a spade bit, the forstner bit is designed for drilling holes into wood. The main differences between a spade bit and a forstner bit is that the forstner bit drills a clean flat-bottom hole and has minimum tear out if your drilling all the way through workpiece. These bits are rated for use with a drill press and not ideal for hand drill (which is not opposite case for the spade bit).
